RIDE FOR KIDS
Andy Woodard and his wife, Claudia, are motorcyclists who participate regularly in a national fund raiser, Ride for Kids. The Ride for Kids is in its 31st year and raised funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. There are over 40 Rides for Kids in the U.S. this year. The 22nd annual Houston Ride for Kids was held on April 27, 2014 and raised over $192,000. We are proud that we make a donation annually to this cause. Check out their website at www.rideforkids.org.
FALLEN WARRIORS MONUMENT
In the Cy-Champ Park on the north side of Houston (at 14107 Cutten Road just south of Cypresswood Drive), a new memorial was dedicated in October, 2012 honoring the Texas Fallen Warriors of the battles for freedom in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom. Patriots who gave their lives in other wars to protect America are honored as well. This spectacular memorial is one that everyone should see. The names of each fallen Texan who gave their lives in the service of their county are carved into this beautiful granite monument. There will be parking near the site. Hays Utility South is proud to have donated to this memorial to thank all of our soldiers for their service. Check out their website at www.kiamonument.org.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIR BAR-B-QUE COOKOFF
In 2014, Hays South sponsored the “Head Chef’s” team at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds in that association’s annual bar-b-que cook off. This is the 5th year of sponsorship in a row for Hays. As you can see from the pictures, a wonderful time was had by the many folks who visited our booth as well at the volunteers who worked so hard on the event for both days. It was reported that each of the volunteers gained about 3 pounds as they ate a lot of their own cooking of brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken and all the trimmings. A special thanks goes out to Tim Hardin, Chris Matthews, Jeff Carter and Drew Hardin, who, along with Don Hays made the event a great success. This event provides income for the Montgomery County Fair Association that is used to provide college scholarships to high school students in the area. If you missed this great event this year, watch for it next year and plan to attend. Great food and lots of fun which includes carnival, numerous youth livestock, rodeo and craft exhibits. See you there in 2015! Check out their website at www.mcfa.org.
The mission of the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition is to benefit the economy and enhance the quality of life for the 400,000 residents in the Greens Bayou watershed through flood mitigation, parks and trails development and economic development. Hays Utility South is proud to provide financial support to this important coalition. The map of the area affected by this work is shown on the left. Check out their website at www.greensbayou.org.
LUNCH & LEARN CAREER PATH PROGRAM
For a number of years now, the Board of Directors of Harris County MUD #24 has been sponsoring a “Lunch & Learn Career Path Program”. This program is designed to expose children in their area to a vast array of career path opportunities that may be available to them in the future.
Hays Utility South Corporation is proud to have provided these children with a chance to be exposed to the water and wastewater service industry for the past 3 years.
In these photos, you can see the children on a tour of the wastewater treatment plant owned by MUD #24 and operated by Hays Utility South. A little rain did not dampen the enthusiasm.
We are pleased to be a part of this practical and ongoing program.
